PICO-8 is a super-cute fantasy console by Lexaloffle Games, the maker of Voxatron (PICO-8's big brother). The system has a fully integrated game editor built into it, including a sprite editor, sound effect and music tracker, and code editor. Games can be shared via PNG files, webpages, or stand-alone binaries, too. It has an active and enthusiastic community, and sports a small, clean Lua API to make learning gamedev fun and approachable. It is proprietary software, but encourages collaboration, sharing, and learning.
